Admissions Policy and Procedures

ADMISSIONS POLICY

Powers Catholic High School admits students without regard to sex, race, color, or national/ethnic origin. It is the right of the school to accept or reject students for academic, disciplinary, social, or psychological reasons.

Students from special schools or who have been on probation and/or suspended or expelled from another school will only be admitted upon careful review of the individual case.

PROCEDURES FOR INCOMING NINTH GRADERS

Students in parochial schools are invited to visit Powers in the fall. Placement tests will then be given at their home schools. Parents of parochial school eighth graders will be put on our mailing list and will be invited to a parent meeting in February. Counselors will visit the parochial schools to register eighth graders in February or early March.

Eighth grade students from public schools are invited to visit Powers in the fall, February, or the spring. Their parents are encouraged to contact the high school office any time during the student’s eighth grade year for the dates for student visits, placement tests, and parent meetings. Parents should then contact the office for a registration appointment with a counselor. A copy of the student’s transcript is essential for proper placement. All ninth grade students entering Powers Catholic are expected to take math and English placement tests.

A student must graduate from the 8th grade in an accredited school or accredited home school program.

Late registration (after June) may result in limited choices of classes.

REGISTRATION/ENROLLMENT

A student will be considered as registered once they have met with a counselor, selected their courses, and paid their registration fee. A student will be considered enrolled once the June tuition payment has been made. Only enrolled students will be issued a schedule of courses.

LATE ENROLLMENT

Under normal circumstances, students will not be admitted to Powers Catholic High School after the fourth Friday of the semester.

WITHDRAWAL AND TRANSFER

Any student withdrawing or transferring from Powers should meet first with either a guidance counselor or an administrator. This meeting will allow school personnel to offer advice on the wisdom and/or the timing of a planned move and to advise the student of the correct procedures to follow in order to withdraw.

All school property must be returned and fees/tuition must be paid before credits are transferred and transcripts sent.
