Securities such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds are excellent ways to support the Powers Catholic Annual Fund, endowments and capital projects, particularly if they have appreciated in value. The full market value of the stock is tax deductible, not just the original investment cost. In addition, you can avoid capital gains taxes on the appreciation of the stock. This is as simple as the Advancement Office providing you with two contacts to facilitate the transfer from your financial representative.
Instructions for Gifts of Stock
• Your financial consultant should contact one of the two financial officers authorized to facilitate a gift/transfer of stock
UBS: Tom Townsend, CFP
Use DTC Code 0221 and Account number F508239
Merrill Lynch: John MacDonald, CFP
Use DTC Code 5198 and Account number 678-02283
• After your financial representative has worked with one of the above to transfer the stock, then we would ask them or you to let us know so we may verify the gift was correctly deposited to the fund at Powers for building/relocation.
Matching Gifts are often an option to employees or retirees of a company or corporation. Matching gifts are a great way to maximize the impact of your individual contribution. Enter the name of a company or foundation to find out if your gift can be matched:
Reunion Gifts – If your class is celebrating a reunion this year, consider a gift to Powers Catholic High School to fund your class endowment, combined with other members of your class, to help make a difference for future generations of alumni.
Bequests may be made through your will and may include a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate.
Endowment Gifts help secure the future of the school while providing for important programs such as scholarships, financial aid and faculty enhancement.
Life Insurance – You can name Powers Catholic High School or any GCCS School as the beneficiary to either all or a portion of an insurance policy.
Real Estate – Gifts of appreciated real estate are similar to gifts of stock. If you have owned the property for 12 months or more, you avoid capital gains taxes and may deduct the fair market value of the property.
Charitable Lead Trusts are funded with an asset, such as appreciated property or securities, and the earnings are contributed to Powers Catholic High School for the life of the trust. When the trust reaches it termination date, the principal goes to your beneficiaries.
Charitable Remainder Trusts are similar to Charitable Lead Trusts as they are funded with an asset. The earnings are paid as income to you and your beneficiaries. Upon the death of the last beneficiary, the principal goes to Powers Catholic High School.
Business and Other In-Kind Gifts such as services, inventory, equipment, materials and cash can benefit Powers Catholic High School while providing a positive tax impact.
