General Steps
1. Visit Powers Catholic
Many students, especially area parochial school students will get to visit Powers Catholic several times with their entire class. If you have not had the chance to visit us before, please call the Admissions Office at (810) 591-4741, ext. 6 or fill out this form to schedule a Campus Tour.
2. Apply for Admission
All incoming freshmen students are asked to fill out an Application for Admission. The first application deadline for incoming 9th graders is December 1st. 9th grade acceptance letters will start being sent out in mid-December. Applications will still be accepted after this deadline in a rolling admissions process. There is a $100, non-refundable, registration fee that must accompany the application. The online form is set up to accept checking account information. If you would prefer to mail in a physical check or cash, please let the admissions office know (810-591-4741 ext. 6).
Transfer Student Applications will be accepted and reviewed at any time throughout the year. Ideally, students will apply a few weeks early and then enroll at the beginning of the school year OR at the beginning of the second semester in January. There is a $100, non-refundable, registration fee that must accompany the application. Checks should be made out to Powers Catholic High School. Please know that once a student applies for admission, a copy of their academic transcript and behavior report will be requested from their current school.
3. State or National Standardized Testing
Genesee County Catholic School Students: Along with your teachers' recommendations and academic transcripts, our counselors will use your Aspire Test results to help determine your course schedule for the coming fall. Powers Catholic counselors will be using your Aspire Test scores from your 7th Grade Summative Test taken at the end of your 7th grade year. They will have these test scores with them at your registration appointments in December.
Students from other area schools: All schools use some form of standards-based testing. For enrolling at Powers Catholic, we will need to see copies of your most recent test scores. This could include STAR, Map, NWEA, PSAT, Pre-ACT, and others. Please attach a copy of your scores to your Application for Admission. Not sure if your student took a test? Just ask your counselor or teacher. If no scores are available, your student will be asked to take a short placement test at Powers Catholic. The test is composed of four, 30-minute sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science. Students will be given two hours to complete the test. Appointments may be made with Ms. Sunday at (810) 591-4741, ext. 6.
Transfer Students (Grades 10-12): Students wishing to transfer to Powers Catholic from another high school will be asked to send test scores from any state or national standardized test taken at your school in the last year to our Admissions Office. If no scores are available, student will be asked to take a short placement test. The test is composed of four brief sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science. Students will be given one hour to complete the test. Appointments may be made with Ms. Sunday at (810) 591-4741, ext. 6.
4. Register for classes
Registration appointments for the 2024/25 school year are available by appointment only. Incoming freshmen must submit standardized test scores to our Admissions Office before registration (GCCS students, your school will submit these scores for you).
Parochial Schools: Powers Catholic counselors will visit the area parochial schools to help eighth grade students and parents pick their classes during the month of December. Parents are encouraged to make appointments through their elementary school to participate in the registration process. If the $100 registration/application fee was not paid when your application was submitted, it will be requested during this appointment. Note: All students from our partner schools are guaranteed a spot in the incoming freshmen class if you register for classes by the end of January. Open enrollment begins in January and will continue until the class is full. Upcoming registration days are:
