FAQ
1. Why are service hours required for graduation from Powers Catholic?
As a Catholic school, service is one way in which we put our school identity into action. The service requirement gives students a way to live the faith that they learn, so that they grow in both love of God and love of neighbor while at Powers Catholic.
2. What are the service requirements for Powers students?
Service hours are a requirement for graduation from Powers. Students are required to complete 10 hours of unpaid community service for each school year they attend Powers. This means that a four-year Powers student is required to complete 40 hours of service prior to graduation.
As part of the service requirement, students complete a Capstone service project during their Senior year. This project involves a minimum of 20 hours of service at an approved non-profit organization and includes assignments incorporated into the Senior theology grade. The Capstone service hours are included in the 40 service hours required for graduation.
3. Where can Powers students serve?
Students can serve in a wide variety of non-profit settings, including churches, schools, shelters, soup kitchens, and community events. Service hours are meant to connect Powers students to the needs of the broader community, meaning that service connected to your home, family, or pets does not count toward service hours. See the lists below for service ideas!
4. How do I log my service hours?
Students use an online system called MobileServe to log and track service hours. Here is a video that explains how to log service hours in MobileServe: https://mobileserve.wistia.com/medias/4ner9rixhj
5. Who can answer other questions about service hours or MobileServe?
Any other questions can be sent to our Campus Minister, Mr. Patrick Brennan, at pbrennan@powerscatholic.org.
