Welcome to the House System!
The goal of the House System is to produce an increasingly well-rounded student experience that allows students to more deeply connect with others from various backgrounds and interests. The House System will increase the number of quality staff-to-student mentorship opportunities and peer-to-peer relationships across grade levels. New students will eventually have the opportunity to become leaders within the program and plan House and Mentor Group activities for their House.
Within the House System, every student and staff member will be assigned to one of the five distinct Houses. Each House, consisting of approximately 115 students, has unique characteristics such as a: namesake, crest, color, and symbol. It is led by one faculty member (House Dean), and several teachers (Mentor Group Leaders). Student leaders (Captains) are tasked with planning mentor group activities and House events alongside their mentor group teachers and House Dean.
This organizational structure organically increases a student’s sense of identity and connection with the school community. House appointments are randomly assigned although we attempt to equally distribute students from the same school across Houses. Mentor groups meet regularly. At various times in the school year, the combination of 5 mentor groups will meet as a House to participate in student-planned activities. Through events and competitions, Houses accumulate points in a variety of categories throughout the school year. The end result will be one House earning the Charger Cup awarded each spring.
PCHS House Names and Deans:
On the first full day of school, new students will receive their House assignment and will be part of that House over the next 4 years.
